Ontario Wool

I’ve been building a list of local wool and fibre producers here in Ontario for a while now, out of an interest to source as much locally as I can. In Iceland the connection folks have to their sheep and fibre is strong (everyone really does wear lopi sweaters) and of course, yarn IS available at the grocery store! Why can't we have that too?

So with that in mind, it’s time to post my list. It’s definitely not complete, and completely ignores producers without website and alpaca growers (raisers?), so if you have any suggestions, please be in touch!

Edited to add: I could have, of course, just thought of Ravelry earlier and checked out this great thread FULL of wool sources....

Iceland

A selection from my Instagram feed of my month in Iceland. I kept busy weaving, spinning, and walking and swimming. I wove two small blankets inspired in part by the motifs and shapes you find in lopapeysa, Icelandic yoked sweaters.

More soon!

A gift to my mum - and that handspun from a while ago.

Also, I just got a new (to me) iPhone and so I've joined Instagram. Come be my friend, it's the only social media I have!

Cardigan

I finished this cardigan two weeks ago already, but it's been cold and I've hardly taken it off long enough to photograph it!

The pattern is called Lady Marple and I eyed it for months before getting started. It was a really easy pattern and I would make it again - just a bit longer next time...

I've just started a new warp and I'm 7 inches in - but I've just discovered my apron is ripping and so I'm about to lose tension in the middle of my web. I'm not sure what to do, so I suppose it's good luck I'm going to my mum's weaving class tonight and I can ask them!

Topsy Farms

This week I am heading out to visit my friends at Spark Box Studio. To keep me busy there is lots of hemming to do and a new sweater to knit - the yarn came last week, ordered from Topsy Farms from Amherst Island here in Ontario. It smells wonderfully sheepy!!
