Honeycomb & natural dyeing
Well. After a few weeks of traveling and busy-ness I am back on track at home. I finally got my loom completely threaded and tied on to do some fabric in a honeycomb pattern. You can see the open book on my loom bench and the first few rows I wove this morning. It's not working out quite right yet, I'm wondering if it will just settle in once I've washed it... Something to research today at work.
It was my mum's birthday a week ago and we spent the day dyeing some linen with natural dyes. We used coffee, tea, bloody dock (a leafy green from her garden), camomile, and a mystery tea. The colours are so beautiful and subtle! I'm not sure about their lightfastness but I definitely want to do some more tests. I haven't done any sewing this summer since I botched a dress in the spring, but all these pretty scraps make me wish I had enough for a whole quilt. Can you imagine? It would be so pretty!
